This is an exclusive studio booking. You can choose to come for one to one tuition or come with up to four other people. This private taster session lasts for 2 hours and makes a great introduction for those wishing to explore the joys of the pottery wheel as an individual or in your own household group.
If you wish to book the studio for your own private one to one lesson the cost is £80. However, most people tend to come with a friend or family to share the experience. If you have a group of 4, the price works out at £35 per person.
1 potter £80
2 potters £80
3 potters £120
4 potters £140
Children are very welcome if accompanied by an adult. I have found that these sessions are most suited to children over the age of around 8/9 years, however I will happily accommodate younger children if you feel they will cope with the length of the session. I have one wheel suitable for smaller children.
What we’ll do
During the session you will use off-white stoneware clay to practise throwing your own small bowls or pots on the potters wheel. You will be guided step by step through the following processes:
Prepare the clay by ‘wedging’
Weigh out equal sized balls
Be shown how to centre the clay on the wheel
Open out the pot and pull up the walls
Add a touch of colour using ‘slip’
At the end of the session you can choose your favourite pot for me to glaze and fire.
Your pot will be left for several days to thoroughly dry out before being fired twice in the kiln. Once cooled, the pot will be coated in a clear glossy glaze and fired a second time. Your pot will be in the kiln for about 4 days in total and will be ready to collect around 4-6 weeks later.
Additional pots: If you can't bear to part with your other practice pots, I can fire and glaze additional pots for £5 per pot.
Postage: If you are unable to collect your handy work, I can package and post a single pot for £5 to any mainland UK address. If you have more than one pot I can post your parcel (up to a weight of 10kg) for £10. For a group of up to 4 people's pots packaged in the same box going to the same delivery address the cost is still £10 if it is within the 10 kg weight limit e.g. approx 4/5 pots per person for a group of 4)
(Overseas postage can be arranged - prices on request)
Any extra costs need to be paid at the end of the session please by cash or bank transfer.
I will wrap pots very carefully and do my best to get them to you in one piece. Please understand though, that I have no control once they are in the courier's hands. There is no insurance for posting pottery so the pots are sent at your risk. Please understand that I can not be held responsible for any damages. Unless arrangements have been made, any pots not collected within 2 months will sadly have to be disposed of, as I simply do not have space to store items indefinitely. Thank you for your understanding.

- CraigJanuary, 2019I booked this for my wife, she had an amazing time and loved every minute of it. She said Louisa was a very calming influence, knowledgable and gave very understandable instruction; a natural teacher. My wife has definite plans to book another lesson.AnnaJanuary, 2019Louisa was a fantastic host, and very welcoming. This was a lovely introduction to pottery. My 8 year old son and I had a wonderful time learning how to make some clay pots on the wheel and we got some nice results and had a go at painting some of our efforts. Thank you Louisa for a really lovely experience and we’d both like a return visit in the not too distant future. We would both throughly recommend having a go too!
We had a wonderful creative family experience with all of us working at a potters wheel. Louisa is a knowledgeable potter and brilliant teacher.
This was great value for money and a really fun couple of hours. Louisa was lovely, knowledgable and really attentive. Can’t wait to receive our pots in the post. Would definitely recommend the session to anyone!!
It was a real pleasure to be taught by someone so friendly and passionate about what they do. The set up is great, lots of equipment, pleasant environment, lots of instruction with time taken to really explain what to do. Left to follow the steps, with encouragement when needed and Louisa to step in to advise if things weren't going quite to plan. Fun and different activity as a couple. Made quite a few pots and we're looking forward to receiving them! Great coffee and biscuits too.
Louisa is a great teacher and she has so much passion . She is kind and understanding and has a great why of teaching so you can remember what she is teaching you. I will definitely be coming back.
