A private group 'Play with Clay' session is perfect for families or small groups of friends or colleagues who wish to spend creative time together.  Making handmade pottery is a perfect way to relax and unwind, and it's a great way to celebrate a special occasion too.

So, if you fancy having some fun exploring the joys of clay, as well as developing some satisfying pottery skills, why not get some pals together and book a 'Play with Clay' hand building session (or even include some time on the potter's wheel with my gold package.)  These sessions are aimed at small groups.  They are suitable for a maximum of six budding potters. Adults and children of all ages are very welcome.

These are fun and informal sessions where potters are given the opportunity to explore their ideas freely.  This is not a structured taught workshop with a defined outcome.  (However, there will be some taught workshops coming to this website shortly.)

Each potter will be given some white earthenware clay and a variety of hand tools to help create and sculpt whatever they fancy.   I will be on hand to offer advice and assistance as and when needed.  There are various pottery books and magazines available to browse through to find inspiration, but to make the best use of your time it would be beneficial for participants to have a rough idea of what they hope to achieve prior to the session.  Bring along a sketch or images if you think this would be helpful, or simply go with the flow, squish some clay and see what emerges!

I currently offer 3 different packages:

Bronze:  £60 for a group of up to 4 people. Up to 2 additional places at £15 per person.
A fun and economical way to experience the world of clay.  Great for younger potters; those with a shorter attention span or those with a simple project in mind.

  • 1½ hours duration

  • up to 1kg of earthenware clay per person

  • 1 kiln firing (bisque fired)

  • refreshments - tea/coffee/squash

Your finished clay pieces will be left to dry for several days before entering the kiln.  They will be fired to 1080°C.   24 hours later they will reappear from the kiln transformed into pottery with a porous, off white matte appearance.  These pots are ideal to decorate at home with paint, wax or varnish etc...

Silver:  £80 for a group of up to 4 people. Up to 2 additional places at £20 per person.
A little bit longer to create with the opportunity to decorate your creations.

  • 2 hours duration

  • up to 2kg of earthenware clay per person

  • use of coloured slips / underglazes

  • 2 kiln firings (bisque  + clear glaze)

  • refreshments - tea/coffee/squash

After you have made your clay creations, you can add a splash of colour to the damp clay with special underglaze colours and/or clay slips if you wish.    Your finished clay pieces will be left to dry for several days before entering the kiln.  They will be fired firstly to 1080°C and once cooled will be dipped in a bucket of liquid clear glaze.    The pots will then be returned to the kiln for a second firing after which they will emerge with a lovely clear glossy finish, be non porous and food safe.

Gold:  £140 for a group of up to 4 people. Up to 2 additional places at £35 per person.
(includes time on the potters wheel)

Really get stuck in and explore your ideas in more depth. Ideal for older kids/ teenagers and adults with their own ideas in mind.  As well as making your hand built creations, there is the added bonus of taking the potters wheel for a spin! (if you would like to)  Louisa will offer approximately 15 minutes of one to one guidance on the wheel with each participant during the session. Alternatively, if you already know how to throw pots, you are welcome to use one of the five wheels independently for as long as you want to during the session.

  • 3  hours duration

  • up to 3kg of earthenware clay per person

  • use of coloured slips / underglaze

  • 2 kiln firings (bisque + clear glaze)

  • 15 minute taster on the potters wheel (one to one) or independent wheel time if you already know how to throw pots (up to three hours practice time if you wish). There are 5 electric wheels available.

  • refreshments - tea/coffee/squash

After you have made your clay creations , you can add a splash of colour to the damp clay with special underglaze colours and/or clay slips if you wish.
