A Day on the Wheel
(public session)

Time:                  10:00am - 4:30pm  (includes 1 hour lunch break)

Includes:            Glazing and firing of 4 pots  per person.

Resources:         1 electric pottery wheel per person

Refreshments:  tea, coffee, juice provided

This public, one day mini course is a fun hands on introduction to the pottery wheel. Aimed at beginners or or those with minimal experience. You will be introduced to the basics of throwing funtional pottery.

(If you wish to come along with your own private group on a mutually convenient day and time, this day is also available as an exclusive private studio booking)

What we’ll do

You will be shown how to prepare the clay by wedging, how to center the clay and how to make simple forms starting with cylinders.  During the session, you will be shown how to alter the form to create simple bowls, vases or small plates.

In the afternoon you have time to practice what you have learned and if you wish, add a splash of colour to your creations with some coloured slips.

It is a practice based course and a good way to get to grips with the basics.

The class is kept intentionally small with a maximum of 4 participants to ensure plenty of help when needed. This course is suitable for adults and teenagers accompanied by a participating adult.

There is a one hour break for lunch at 1pm. Please either bring a packed lunch or take a trip out to one of the local eateries a short walk away. The afternoon session recommences at 2pm.  Refreshments of tea and coffee will be available throughout the day.

At the end of the day you can choose up to 4 of your favourite pots to be fired and clear glazed.
Your pots will be left for several days to thoroughly dry out before being fired in the kiln.  Once cooled, the pots will be coated in a clear glossy glaze and fired a second time.

Additional pots: Your 4 favourite pots are fired and glazed for you,  but should you find it hard to part with your extra practice pots you can if you wish, purchase additional pots at £5 per extra pot to cover materials, firing and technician time.

Collection:

Your pots will be ready to collect around 4-6 weeks later. This process can not be rushed and you will receive a message when they are ready.

Postage Disclaimer

I will wrap pots very carefully and do my best to get them to you in one piece. Please understand though, that I have no control once they are in the courier's hands. There is no insurance for posting pottery so the pots are sent at your risk.  Please understand that I can not be held responsible for any damages.  Unless arrangements have been made, any pots not collected within 2 months will sadly have to be disposed of, as I simply do not have space to store items indefinitely. Thank you for your understanding.
