About The Event

This is a clay class exclusively for the local home educated children.

It's time to get planting. How about making this time of year a little bit special by getting the kids planting some seeds or bulbs in a plant pot they have made themselves.

The plant pots will be coil built, using rolled out or extruded sausages of white earthenware clay.

The cost for these sessions will be £12 per child place with a maximum of 8 kids places available. There are 2 adult places available see below for more info.

Date: Tuesday 7th May

Time: 1:30pm (please arrive 5 mins early to allow settling in time before the session starts.) This session will run for approximately 1 hour 30 mins

Address: 133 Dean Road, Scarborough, YO127JH parking is free on the street for up to 3 hours.

The children will have experience of:

* Hand rolling coils of clay (long sausages)

* Seeing an extruder machine being used to form coils more quickly and have a go at pulling the handle if they would like to make some coils using this helpful studio tool.

* Attaching the coils securely to build the pot.

* Using a variety of clay tools

* Using underglazes to carefully paint on colour

They will also be introduced to some language used in association with clay work e.g. firing, kiln, bisque, glaze etc.....

I will explain the whole making process step by step to make it fairly simple, however younger children or those with no experience of working with clay may need a little bit of assistance from a parent.

They can add colour to their creations during the session and all the pots will have two kiln firings and come out glazed ,(nice and shiny).

If the children finish their pot, they are very welcome to make a plant pot buddy or two from the spare clay. A plant pot buddy is a little character that sits on a length of thin garden cane to keep your plants company and hopefully help them grow :) E.g. a little snail, butterfly, frog, hedghog, ladybird etc...

Their work will be fired twice in the kiln to give it a nice glossy glaze.

Aprons will be provided but please wear suitable clothing that you do not mind getting scruffy.

There will be juice/water and tea and coffee available for those taking part and waiting. Please help yourselves to this. :)

There is a maximum number of 8 kids places for this session these are booked on a first come first served basis. A limited number of 2 adult places can also be booked for this session if you are also booking in a child. Adult prices are slightly discounted. ( Maximum one adult permitted per family on a first come first served basis) Parents stay for the duration of the session unless another attending parent is happy to be responsible for your child.

I need a minimum of 4 children's places to be booked to enable the session to run.

**Please make sure you read my home education information page on this site about the home education workshops for a general overview of how they work and what to expect.**

Items made will be available to collect approximately 3-4 weeks later. Any items made will need to be collected please within 2 months as I do not have space to store things indefinitely. I will let you all know when items are ready to collect. :)

I can also post your work at your risk and cost if this is more convenient.

A place is only booked when a payment has been made via this site.

Many thanks and I look forward to seeing you xx
